QTW 55 - Audio Dropouts During QuickTime Movies (1-Aug-95)

Q Our current title was developed in Director and uses QuickTime quite extensively. In some PC environments, we are experiencing audio dropouts. What should we do to avoid this?

A Audio problems during movie playback from CD-ROM are usually sound-card configuration problems. The audio channel can starve if its buffer is too small or if there is a DMA or interrupt conflict with the CD-ROM drive.

Try playing the movie from the hard disk. If this cures the problem, check the sound-card configuration. The high-DMA channel is important for 16-bit audio. If possible, increase the audio-buffer size (this can be done on some, but not all, sound cards).

If the Forte PC Sound Card and IMA 4:1 16-bit sound tracks cause stuttering, use QuickTime for Windows 2.0.2 or later.
